Esta publicación tiene su origen en el Congreso celebrado en Tokio en el mes de mayo de 2009 bajo el título "Intellectual Property and International Civil Litigation”. La obra incluye los artículos relativos a las diversas ponencias presentadas en el marco de ese Congreso, de modo que incorpora un conjunto elaborado de estudios sobre competencia judicial internacional, derecho aplicable y reconocimiento y ejecución de decisiones en los litigios sobre propiedad industrial e intelectual, prestando especial atención a las propuestas para mejorar la regulación en esta materia llevadas a cabo por el American Law Intitute, el European Max-Planck-Group on Conflict of Laws in Intellectual Property y el Transparency of Japanese Law Project. Al final de cada una de las partes figura un breve resumen de los debates del congreso. Por último, los textos de las propuestas normativas mencionadas aparecen recogidos en los anexos del libro.
